SHE is as celebrated for her ample curves as she is for her acting.
But it seems that Mad Men star Christina Hendricks, 35, wasn't always so voluptuous. This week, photos of a much younger Christina emerged in which she shows off a figure that's dramatically slimmer.
Playboy magazine posted on the internet a series of images from a 1999 photoshoot in which she posed in a tiny silver bikini and blonde wig.
It tweeted alongside the images: 'Tuesday Trivia. Who is the famous actress in this photo from the July 1999 issue?' A little later, it followed up: 'For those who guessed Christina Hendricks from Mad Men, way to go! She's on the right and helped illustrate an article on summer shooters.' The actress, who plays Joan Holloway in Mad Men, posed alongside a bare-chested man and several bikiniclad models for the feature.
The photos have provoked speculation about how her curves emerged and whether she has been surgically enhanced.
However, Christina has always insisted that her figure changed because of a change of diet when she lived in Italy.
She has said: 'I started out as a model and when I went to Italy to build my modelling book, I gained 15 pounds from all the pastas and cappuccinos. I saw my body change and I loved how it changed my appearance and how it made me look more womanly and sexy.' Since then, she says she has often received compliments on her stunning 39D-30-39 figure.
'I've had people come up to me and say, "You've made me feel proud about my curves", or, "It's so refreshing to see body types like yours." That feels nice because, after all, I feel sexy and I feel like a woman and I feel happy and I don't feel like I'm constantly depriving myself or beating myself up and I still feel beautiful.
'But at the same time, I'm a woman and do I want to lose 10 pounds? Absolutely, like everyone does, so I can't say I've mastered that.''
