FED: PM feared meeting Adams might be seen as endorsement

CANBERRA, Feb 26 AAP - Prime Minister John Howard feared that meeting Sinn Fein president
Gerry Adams might have been misconstrued as an endorsement of him.

"I decided not to see Mr Adams for a number of reasons, one of them is that we have a great
tendency in this country to confuse toleration with endorsement," Mr Howard told Melbourne
radio station 3AW today.

"Just because you agree that someone should come to the country and just because as any
free citizen, he has a right to put his point of view, doesn't mean that you endorse …
