A HIT-AND-RUN driver who knocked down and killed a YorkshireTerrier may face prosecution for not reporting the accident.
Tiny Betsy-Sue, who weighed just two pounds, was run over on theA414 Main Road, Danbury, after running away from her distraughtowner.
The three year old bitch bolted after being nipped by a dog ataround 3.30pm on Saturday afternoon at Danbury Common.
Attacked Heartbroken owner Joyce Sargeant, 60, of The Heights,had been exercising Betsy-Sue together with her father Beau, anotherYorkshire Terrier, Teddy, and Alfie, a Pomeranian, when her dogswere attacked.
Mrs Sargeant said: "This woman failed to control her dogs, theycame over and frightened my little dogs. I think one of them nippedBetsy-Sue making her run off in fright."
After a thorough search of Danbury Common a distraught MrsSargeant returned home not knowing of her beloved pet's fate.
Mrs Sargeant's daughter, Nicola, placed an advertisement on amissing dog internet website which was spotted by villager NicolaThompson, who was driving behind the vehicle that knocked downBetsey-Sue.
Nicola Thompson told the Chronicle: "The lady driver did notbother to stop and check its welfare, she just drove off.
"I was so shocked that I did not take down the details of herlight green car, I only wish I had taken its number plate.
"Fortunately there were some good Samaritans about who lifted thepoor dog out of the road, wrapped her in a blanket and knocked onsome nearby homes in the hope of finding her owner.

Nicola Sargeant added: "We would like to trace the car owner, allwe know is it was driven by a woman."
