SOME of the accused in the Andrew Merryweather trial may soon get notices of a civil suit against them following their acquittal on charges of attempted murder in the Wynberg Regional Court.

Mervin Smith, Merryweather's lawyer, said his client's family had been very disappointed with the verdict of Magistrate Jackie Redelinghuys who cited sloppy police work and contradictory witnesses for his decision to free the six youngsters on charges of attempted murder.

Michael Enslin, Liam Hechter, Joel Thackwray, Oliver Scholtz, Samuel Davidson and Justin Maxwell were acquitted of assaulting Merryweather at a Claremont service station. …
